As far as we know, this is the first men's flat track bout between USA and Canada. The announcer said something about it being the first international men's flat track bout. USA is represented by Puget Sound Outcast Derby from North West Washington while Canada is represented by the Maple Beats, made up of skaters from Vancouver, Edmonton and Saskatoon and other locales. At least one referee is from Victoria.

Although Saskatoon is the only Candaian promotional appearing in the video stream, there are other contacts that had more participation in the Maple Beats. Saskatoon was used because it was gender-neutral rather than feminine. The Maple Beats current Facebook presence address has a long string of digits in it. Maple Beats Facebook Page

Here are links to some women's organizations in which members of the Maple Beats participate as coaches, referees, etc.

Terminal City Roller Girls - Vancouver, BC
Eves of Destruction - Victoria, BC
Saskatoon Roller Derby League - Saskatoon, SK

The quality of the video is really below the acceptable level. However, the bout is also historic.

A really major issue is the two brilliant spots of sunlight which make half the venue strongly backlighted while the other half is fairly normal.
It would have made the video much better to have closed the two doors through which the sunlight streamed, but it was a warm day and ventilation was a much higher priority than video.

The camera could have located at turn four and the light would have been somewhat better, but there was also an open door behind turn two. The angle would also have lost the faces of the skaters at the start. The decision was taken to remain at the usual angle because the videographer is just freakin' crazy about that pan down the pack to the jammers and she gets petulant when she can't have it. So just accept this as a really artsy, psychedelic, folkloric video and groove along to the merby.

Please ignore the very "homer" in appearance freeze frame in the viewer. There appears to be a malfunction in the "pick a frame" function on the host server. It has been reported.
